Former Sri Lankan player Chandika Hathurusinga will be replaced by Sri Lanka as the new coach. Bangladesh's coach Chandika Hathurasinga has resigned from the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Graham Ford was appointed as the coach of Sri Lanka's Nick Pottas after the vacancy in June. It is reported that former captain Kumar Sangakkara has inspired Hathurusinga to become the coach of the team.
Jason Gillespie and Jeff Marsh were shortlisted for the coaching position of Sri Lanka, but the Sri Lankan Cricket Board was more interested in Hathurasinghe. Until the 2019 World Cup, Hathurasinga was signed into a Bangladeshi coach.
Shoaib had a chance to join the coaching position of Trevor Bailey in 2011, but he left the subcontinance of Sri Lankan cricket team following the disagreements with the board. He is also a coach of former Sri Lanka A team.
